We could talk for hours about how much time has flown by since we were assisting backstage at D Squared at Milan SS17 but by the time we had finished, we will be packing for Paris and this blog post would never see the light of day! That, and we are just dying to tell you all about SLB’s recent project for BaByliss PRO, working backstage at London AW17…
BaByliss PRO made two appearances backstage, both occasions sponsoring Syd Hayes and his hair team.
First up was our debut at Sadie Williams on the Friday, with the presentation taking place at the new BFC Show space. This was Sadie William’s third season at LFW and Syd has worked with her since the beginning, where he always tries to tie some element of her collection in to the hair.
For this show, Syd said, “Sadie is an amazing designer to work with and she always has a sporty twist to her collections. This season I wanted to give a bit more of a grown-up, sophisticated feel but still with a sports twist.”
To create the look Syd prepped hair with the BaByliss PRO ItaliaBrava Dryer then used the Titanium Expression Deep Waver to create texture, brushing it through to give a more romantic feel. The waves began below the crown, not close to the root. A low side parting was created from off the edge of the eyebrow.
Syd says, “ I think you always get a nice shape to the face if you follow up from the edge of the eyebrow.”
The look was finished with a Swarovski crystal accessory, handmade by Syd and the team, inspired by the shine and shapes of the collection.
Back to the BFC, only this time the showspace, on Sunday for David Koma. Inspired by the designer’s native Georgia, Syd, created a modern twist on the country’s traditional hairstyle for AW17.
Syd and his team of stylists created this cool look on 27 models, giving the vision they had all received an undercut when viewed from a distant.
Syd explains the look: “This look requires precision and expert braiding. We dried hair straight, using the BaByliss PRO Italia Brava dryer, and then took a left to right side parting, just where the hair drops, before the head flattens out. Hair was gelled to make a feature of the parting and to ensure it stayed sharp. The rest of the hair length that dropped was tucked behind the ear creating the illusion of an undercut.
On this left hand side of the head we created a tight, flat braid – ultra clean and neat. The braid was completed along the full length of the section, whatever the length of the model’s hair.
The rest of the hair was then straightened using the BaByliss PRO Titanium Expression Ultimate Styler.
Our secret weapon: wire to keep the braids poker straight on the runway and our kit bag essential: wire cutters!!”
What we did: sign off sponsorship, deliver tools, liaise between client and creative hair team, host press and introduce journalists to creative team on the day, submit press release and show images to trade publications.
